AS 4348 ( stand-alone appliances only )
Bookmark Print
BACKGROUND:

The AS/NZS 4348 Testing Manual outlines the methodology and acceptance criteria for testing the efficacy of domestic water treatment appliances against microbiological, chemical and particulate influent water challenges.

Test water concentrations and parameters depend upon the manufacturer’s claims and the appliance type.  The laboratory undertakes AS/NZS 4348 testing for stand-alone appliances only.

PRINCIPLES:

A volume of test water (influent) with defined characteristics and a specified microbiological, chemical or particulate challenge level is passed through two drinking water treatment units simultaneously. The water is passed through the units over a period of days mimicking the actual usage of the appliance.

Samples of water (effluent) are taken after passage through the units at predetermined times and tested for their microbiological, chemical or particulate concentration. These concentrations are compared with those of the influent water and assessed for their log reduction, acceptance criteria is also dependant upon the manufacturer’s claims.

SAMPLE REQUIREMENTS:

Duplicate set of units required for each testing (filter jugs).  For filtration units, provide 2 units with replacement cartridges for each type of test.  All in-let and out-let hoses must also be provided with the units if applicable.  Consult the laboratory prior to sending samples for testing.

TURNAROUND TIMES:

Sample collection period depends on the performance claim of each product. Assay of sample extracts, after collection , is ~3 weeks.
